!!MOD NOTE: How to bid!

How to Bid: A Quick Guide
(With thanks to yhlee and the care_faith_hope auction for the basic guide)

Bidding begins on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 12:01 am Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

There are two ways to bid.

Buy It Now. Some auctions list a "Buy It Now" price. If you are the first bid and you put "Buy It Now" in your subject line, you can purchase the item at the "Buy It Now" price. Be warned, though: just like eBay, "Buy It Now" only applies if no one else has bid on the item. Once someone has used the "Buy It Now" option, no one else may bid on the same item.

Good old-fashioned bidding. Alas, we are not as cool as eBay and cannot track bids for you. But don't despair! You can do one of two things: Bid what you really, truly believe in your heart to be your maximum, or use the stalker pin. What's the stalker pin, you ask? It's the "Track" option, which is a little thumbtack in the visual menus at the top of an entry.

Once you click on that option, you'll see the Manage Message Settings menu. This is where you can specify how you would like to be notified if someone else comments on a given post. You can choose to be emailed or otherwise notified when someone else comments (bids) on an entry.

For everyone's convenience, PLEASE keep all bidding in one thread as much as possible, with each bid 'topping' the one that came before. This will also make it easier to keep track of bids.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN LJ ACCOUNT: Bid by clicking "Post a new comment" (if there are no bids yet) or "Reply to this" underneath the last bid. You must include some kind of identifying information with EACH AND EVERY COMMENT: either comment with OpenID (LJ FAQ), or leave a name, nickname, blog address, anything that reasonably identifies you at the end of your bid comment. If you fail to do this or to respond within a reasonable time to requests to identify yourself, or if we think your bid is in bad faith, we reserve the right to cancel your bid and let the auction continue or, if already closed, to go to the next bidder.

Bidding ends Sunday, May 23, 2010, 11:59 pm Eastern DST. At that time, please stop bidding! As there are only two mods and a bunch of auctions, we're counting on you all to follow the rules.

So I've won! What do I do next?

Get in touch with your seller, and work out the best way to verify payment. A screencap or forward of an electronic receipt usually works best, but whatever you and your seller work out together is fine.

Unless otherwise indicated or negotiated, the seller will pay for shipping, so the buyer doesn't have to deal with two different places to send cash.

The buyer, when the donation is made, will put their confirmation in my post here, so I can keep track of totals.

Please bid in USD for consistency.

An additional consideration: If you are bidding on food, you should probably be within the continental US, or very aware of customs rules regarding food shipments to your country/area.
